To Captain John Rodgers, the rest of the Commissioned and
subaltern Officers and the Private Gentlemen of the
Susquehanna and Bayside Militia Company of Infantry,
incorporated in the support of the common but most glorious
cause, the very vitals, Liberty.
. . . [2 lines of introductory verse]
Big with the fate of Empire and her laws,
You're met, with firm intention to maintain th' cause,
Of injur'd Liberty, and support that trade,
Yourselves, and parents, industry have made.
. . . [26 more lines]
CAPTAIN.
Brothers what say ye? let's a commission take,
  Forgive them when they ask for heaven's sake;
Their looks poor souls, bespeak their deep distress,
The scene's so shocking, tongue can scarce express.
. . . [4 lines]
In hostile manner, never more dare come,
Within our trumpet's sound, or beat of drum.
Rejoice my noble sirs, rejoice and sing,
Loud Hallelujahs to our heavenly King.
. . . [12 more lines]
